Parking and transport

When it comes to parking and transportation for the hike between Østerbø and Vassbygdi, you have a couple of choices. Since the hike is not a loop trail, you'll need to arrange transport by car for one of the ways between Østerbø and Vassbygdi. 

  • The first option is to leave your car at Østerbø. We offer free parking, even if you have already checked out. After completing the hike from Østerbø to Vassbygdi, you can take the bus back to Østerbø. Please be aware that some bus options may require advance booking.

  • For a more flexible approach, you can drive your car down to Vassbygdi in the morning, take the bus back to Østerbø, and then your car will be waiting for you at the end of the hike. This way, you won't be tied to a specific bus schedule after finishing the hike.

  • Another option is to take the bus down to Vassbygdi in the morning and then hike back up to Østerbø.

There are two different parking spots in Vassbygdi, but we recommend the one at Vassbygdi servicebygg since this is where the trail concludes. Here, you can also treat yourself to a cup of coffee, a waffle, or an ice cream after finishing the hike (during the peak season).

Bus Options

Østerbø Fjellstove Minibus – for overnight guests only and only prebooking

Our minibus runs daily between Vassbygdi and Østerbø. The bus departs from Østerbø at 08:30 and travels down to Vassbygdi for those who wish to hike up the valley, with a return service at 09:00 for those who would like to leave their car in Vassbygdi. The bus also departs from Vassbygdi at 16:30 for those hiking down the valley (an additional bus at 15:30 is available if needed) Please note: This service is only available to overnight guests. All guests who have booked a hiking package automatically have a seat reserved on our minibus. Other overnight guests can book a seat on our minibus separately.

We also offer transportation for our overnight guests between Geiteryggen, Steinbergdalen, Østerbø and Vassbygdi during the period when bus route 850 is not operating. Prices start from NOK 130–195 per person. When the scheduled bus is not operating, we offer transportation to and from Aurland/Flåm both on your arrival day and during your stay. We provide transportation between 08:00 and 20:00. Pick-up times are arranged separately after booking. We cannot guarantee your preferred pick-up time, as we may have other transportation assignments, but we will do our best to pick you up as close to your requested time as possible. Please provide your preferred pick-up time when making your booking. If you require transportation outside these hours, please contact a local taxi service.

In September, bus 850 only runs in the afternoons from Friday to Sunday. The last bus runs on Sunday, September 13.
